Exploring the Creative World of Gigi enee

In Her Studio and the Process

I am an artist and independent business owner living in the beautiful mountains of Asheville North Carolina.

My journey as an artist from the beginning has been essential and intuitive. As a lover of nature and fashion, Eco Printing, a direct contact print natural dye process using botanicals and metals on natural fibers, was an anticipated progression in my design work.

Wild crafting a variety of plants native to the North Carolina region and others in combination with rust dying, Shibori techniques and hand stitching I incorporate new and reclaimed materials to create original designs.

The results are organically beautiful, contemporary, craft wearable art designs as unique as the women who wear them!

The Power of Creation

Somewhere beyond the imagination comes surprises that will motivate your soul to create the unimaginable. Where to find inspiration can be a journey in itself. I think finding it, is a very individual process for everyone. It will take you off the beaten path and beyon and will urge you to claim the fire within and keeps it's embers forever burning.

Sometimes all I need for motivation is to meander about the studio, gaze out a window or indulge in all the textures, colors and unfinished projects, perhaps one that's been on the shelf for longer than I care to say. I can ponder it in a new light and suddenly it's transformed in my mind and I can't wait to get it under the spell of my creation.

I admit ..... I'm a compulsive multitasker when it comes to my art. I always have more than one project going on at a time. Combing through antique tatters, vintage scraps, botanically dyed salvage from cut patterns all call out to different designs in my mind at the same time. They get assigned to different potential creations and over time become their own spirit in a completed one of a kind piece of wearable art.

Enjoy the process!
